I’m a Canadian artist aspiring to grow and to encourage others to grow. As the daughter of Hong Kong immigrant parents and the older sister of a developmentally disabled brother… art has been a talent I’ve buried in favour of seeking a potential future of security and comfort. However, I’ve learned that growth is neither of those things.
During my university years, I realized the stories that art and comics could tell, and I had the privilege of exploring visual storytelling by creating my own comics, storyboards, and a short film. Nowadays I share my art journey on Instagram (@nijaye.draws), including my comic series, Another Day, Another Me!, which explores my ongoing growth through the interaction of my current self with my past selves. Through my comics and paintings, I hope to develop myself and my craft so that someday my future self, in her life of excitement and hope, will look back and be glad I took this leap of faith.
